In the heart of the Hungarian city Székesfehérvár, the first ever electric city bus manufactured by the Hungarian IKARUS and the Chinese CRRC, had been presented in December 2018. The IC 1211 U typed 12m long electric bus holds the “CityPioneer” name and plays an essential role in the future cooperation between the municipality of Székesfehérvár and the Hungarian-Chinese joint venture, Electrobus Europe. The Company has signed a major cooperation agreement with the mayor of Székesfehérvár, dr. András Cser-Palkovics, on initiating a green urban mobility strategy by putting the electric vehicle into operation.
The exterior of the prototype is based on the design of the CRRC model; however, the interior, homologation processes and the development of the mountings were created according to the workmanship of the engineers of IKARUS, which genuinely comply with the standards of the European Union.
IC 1211 U is a 12.000 mm long, low- floor city bus with three doors. Driving is enabled by a drive train, which has been tested and proved reliable by the production of thousands in China. The bus owns a permanent magnet synchronous motor that is capable of reaching the absolute power level of 240 kWs. This type of engine ensures the dynamic acceleration of the electric vehicle. The performance of the 313 kW battery is dependent on weather and land conditions and is suited for the performance of 200-260 km with the charging time of 5 to 6 hours.
The ultimate aim of the joint agreement is to establish a lasting cooperation between the municipality of Székesfehérvár and Electrobus Europe, the subsidiary of IKARUS and CRRC Urban Traffic, in order to create a smart and sustainable urban mobility system that ensures passenger satisfaction and environmental protection.
In the beginning of 2019, the first IKARUS-CRRC electric city bus will be put into testing throughout the city of Székesfehérvár, which will be followed by its official enter into the city’s circulation.
In 2019 Electrobus Europe will be further engaged in Chinese-Hungarian innovations. In the second half of 2019 the Company will own the prototypes of an electric midi and articulated bus.
The mass production of the CityPioneer electric city bus is expected to start in the middle of 2019.
